Landscaping in Doral, FL

Doral is a ten-minute run west for us and it is one of our steadiest areas, but the work here looks nothing like the work in the older neighbourhoods east of the airport.

Almost everything in Doral is newer, built to a plan, and covered by an HOA — which means small, rectangular, highly visible spaces where the rules say what you may plant and how tall it may be, and where the yard next door looks exactly like yours. Two things pay off in a space like that: a hedge that is genuinely cut to a line rather than rounded off, and one deliberate feature — a stone medallion, a lit specimen, a shaped standard — that makes the front read as designed instead of installed. Townhouse courtyards are the other half of it. A twenty-by-thirty rear patio hemmed in by walls is a hard space to make work and an easy one to overplant, and it usually wants hardscape, light and three good plants rather than a bed around the whole perimeter.
