Miami does not have an off season. St. Augustine grows all twelve months and grows hard from May to October, when it will run away from you in a fortnight — so maintenance here is about rhythm rather than effort. We cut at the height the grass actually wants (3.5 to 4 inches for St. Augustine, which is taller than most people mow it and is what keeps chinch bugs and weeds down), edge every hard line, blow the drive and walks clean, and keep beds weeded and their edges cut. Same day each week or every other week, and you get a message if weather moves us.
