Kendall is suburban Miami at its most typical, and it is where we do the largest number of full transformations — because the lots are big enough to actually change and the houses were built with no thought given to what happened behind them.
The pattern repeats street after street: a screened pool at the back, a strip of St. Augustine around it, a hedge on the property line, and nothing else. There is usually room out there for a terrace, a planted bed with some depth to it, a lit walk and a place to sit that is not on the pool deck — and once that is built the house gets a room it did not have.
Because most of these yards have a pool and a cage, the hard surfaces are half the job. Pool decks and screen enclosures pick up algae quickly in a wet summer, and a cage washed properly reads as new; the same cage blasted at the wrong pressure loses its screen. We wash both on the same visit as the yard where it makes sense.
